To open a PhonePe account, the first thing to do is to download the PhonePe app.
You can download the app directly from the PhonePe website, or by visiting the Google Playstore or the app store, and searching for PhonePe. As long as you have a decent internet connection, downloading the PhonePe app should be pretty breezy.
When the app is installed on your phone, you should proceed to register an account. Opening a PhonePe account is done by the following steps:
The first step in your PhonePe registration is to provide your phone number. Make sure the number you enter is the one linked with your bank account. PhonePe will send a one-time-password to your phone number. Enter it and click "Verify" to proceed with your registration.
- Fill in your personal details
After verifying your number, PhonePe takes you to another page, where you will be required to fill in your full names, email address, and create a four-digit password. Supply these details, accept the terms and conditions, and click "Activate Account".
The next step is to create a new Virtual Payment Address (VPA). Consider the VPA as the username for your account, which allows you to send and receive money without having to type in your account number.
After creating your VPA, go on and select the bank you want to link to your account. When you select your bank, PhonePe will automatically fetch your bank details (using your verified phone number). Confirm these details and boom, you can start using your PhonePe app to send and receive money!
Note that you need to authorize every transaction by providing the BHIM UPI PIN. If you have never set a BHIM UPI PIN for your bank account, you will see a “Set BHIM UPI PIN” option under your account details.
To create the PIN, you will be asked to enter the last six digits of your Debit/ATM card, the "Expiry Date", and the one-time-password sent by your bank for verification. Each bank account has a unique UPI PIN.
