The Indian Law Commission in a 145-page report has recommended that the government introduce full legalisation on gambling in India under regulation. This would essentially mean that gambling providers could apply for a license from the government of India and if granted, could legally open up offices and begin to offer betting and casino games to players in India.
NB: It is important to understand that online gambling is not currently illegal in India, but the law which dates back to 1867 is outdated and unclear about how to interpret online gambling.
Needless to say, here at Mybetting we are thrilled about this new development, and we hope that the government will heed the advice of the law commission in the near future.
The Public Gambling Act of 1867 which prohibits public gambling on Indian territory makes criminals out of ordinary people and creates an underworld of money laundering and other illegal activities.
In addition, it deprives the Indian government of potential tax revenue that it could gain from properly taxing these new gambling companies. We believe that a legalisation of gambling in India would be a beneficial prospect for all parties involved.
